The Highmoorpath

Highmoors - unique biotopes in the alpine world

Duration:
4 h
Length:
12 km
Difference in height uphill:
400 m
Path number:
14 - 2 - 3
Break:
Hotel Tulper, Rastnerhütte, Starkenfeldhütte, Roner Alm
hochmoor1
Highmoors are the natural habitat of a variety of rare plants and animals, which are put under protection. We drive from Lüsen (with the hiking Bus or car) on the mountain road to the Hotel Tulper (1627 m). The itinerary starts at the hotel from where we walk in western direction through the woods (marking 14), then on an asphalted road to the farm Wieserhof and after to the farm Gschlorerhof. From here we walk on the path to the right through the woods and then in northern direction over the alpine level to the mountain hut Roner Alm (1832 m). We proceed in eastern direction reaching the chapel Pianer Kreuz (mark 2), from where we follow the alpine road, enjoying the fabulous view, until we get to a bifurcation. Turning left we reach the mountain hut Rastnerhütte (1931 m), going straight we get to the Starkenfeldhütte (1936 m). After a short break we walk back on the alpine road which leads us to a fork (wooden hut on our right) where we take the left-hand track downwards in southern direction, passing the highmoor (mark 3). The road leads us back to the Hotel Tulper. Variation >Hotel Tulper >Roner Alm >Oberhauser Hütte> Farm Villpeder >Hotel Tulper Initially we follow the indications of the Highmoorpath until we reach the Roner Alm. From here we walk in western direction on the alpine road, shortly after we turn left and continue on the old alpine path “Cofinweg”. Walking downwards through meadows and woods we reach the Oberhauser Hütte and shortly after we get to the farm Villpeder (with a pilgrimage church), then we follow the street, which leads us to the Gschlorerhof. From there a path will lead us back to the starting point. Hint: The high plateau of the alpine pasture of Rodeneck and Lüsen is also easily accessible with a pram from the parking lot Heroler (1640 m) or parking lot Zumis (1735 m). For experienced hikers we suggest the itinerary to the peak Astjoch (2184 m, called also Burgstall)
