Vines and UNESCO Dolomites
The road to beautiful Luson starts in the cathedral town of Bressanone in South Tyrol. At the entrance to the valley are the vineyards of the Bressanone basin, where Sylvaner, Kerner and Gewürztraminer are grown. These are wonderful white wines, some of the known all over the world, that everyone should indulge in every now and again. The valley meanders through meadows and pine forests before reaching the peaceful and dreamy village of Luson. Here, the eye is drawn to the Dolomite peak of Monte Putia.
The world's most famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner, who has his home in the mountains of this region, grew up in the Dolomites and describes this legendary rocky paradise as the most breathtaking range of mountains on our beautiful blue planet. In 2009 the Dolomites were given UNESCO World Heritage status. From the West to the East, people from all over the world are drawn to this fascinating rugged place, situated remotely above the alpine pastures of the Eastern Alps.
