Castle Rodenegg – Hiking next to the ravine of the Rienz – even with uncertain weather a wonderful experience. We drive in direction of Brixen, and turn right at the gas station in direction of Lüsen-Kreuz and drive further until we reach the farm Kreuzplon (884 m), where we park our car. After passing the farm Kreuzplonhof we turn right and walk upwards to the chapel Kreuzstöckl (984 m). From there we follow the path through the woods in northern direction to the hamlet Spisses and after that we walk on the road over Gifen to Vill (885 m). Here we can visit the famous Castle Rodenegg, a medieval structure with its fabulous frescos (Guided tours available at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.) Finally we walk back on the same way. Prolongation of the itinerary: Not far from the Castle Rodenegg we can find a small path, which leads downhill to the ravine of the Rienz and further to the covered bridge Rundl (625 m). Once we reach the former power station of Brixen, we walk upwards to the chapel of the farm Rundlhof. Here we turn left and follow the patz and after that a forestry road to Viums (890 m) From here we walk shortly in western, then in southern direction. The itinerary leads us through a Biotope to the village Natz. Once we are in the town centre we have to walk in eastern direction, until we arrive to the ravine of Rienz and to the bridge. Walking uphill we get to the farm Niederst and on the road to the farm Kreuzplon (884 m). Height metres 650, 16 km, 5,5 hrs.
